Job description

Topic: Parametric optimization of the pressure loss of a spark separator using numerical flow simulation

Degree course: Master's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or similar

WHAT IS IT ABOUT?

Spark traps are important components of filter systems that serve to remove sparks from the raw gas and prevent fire hazards for the filter elements. Optimizing the number, shape and size of guide vanes provides the opportunity to reduce the pressure drop while maintaining the tangential velocity required for effective separation. This work focuses on conducting an optimization study using a genetic algorithm based Python script in conjunction with CFD simulations in OpenFOAM (or ANSYS Fluent/CFX).

WE NEED YOU FOR:

  • preparing a parametric CAD model

  • carrying out CFD simulations

  • performing parametric studies using Python scripts based on genetic algorithms

  • validation of the simulation results

  • creating comprehensive documentation of the research results
